How to avoid false alarm

For new user of home alarm system, it’s normal to trigger the false alarm. This is due to lack of knowledge of controlling the alarm and also not used to live with the newly installed security system.

However, this can be solved when you finally get used to the functionality and control of the alarm system. This will need some practice of using the alarm system and follow some of the security rules for effective home protection.

Nowadays many effective home alarm systems have the special function of grouping the detectors into Home Arm and Out Arm mode. Grouping the detectors into Home Arm mode will enable user to bypass area of this group without triggering the siren. This function is very useful if you want to move around a certain area of the house (for example, first floor of a double storey house) but will like to keep the other area guarded by alarm system. Group the detectors to Out Arm mode if you want all the detectors to work. Also, you may consider Disarm the alarm system if you want to walk freely around the house while making sure you have keep all the entrances into the house close.

If you install the door sensor on the door of your bedroom, make sure you disarm it whenever you open the door when you wake up each morning. You may do this by using a controller or sending SMS to disarm it. Alternatively, you may want to set this door sensor to Home Arm mode so that you do no need to disarm it whenever you open the door but this alarm will not be working at this mode.  

Location of the detectors will also cause a false alarm to be triggered. For example, PIR detector must not be installed in a location where it can be easily blocked by other things in the house, eg. curtain which being blown up during windy day. PIR detector may also be triggered by big size bugs or lizards which move over it. Therefore, user may put a blockage by means of double sided tape around the PIR detector to avoid such disturbance. Hanging the PIR detector with stand provided will also limit the space for bugs or lizards to crawl onto it.

Avoid children chasing around the house while the detectors are being ON. If such activities cannot be avoided, you may need to turn off the detectors while making sure you have done necessary precaution in locking all the entrances to the house.

It’s always very useful to keep your remote controllers in an easily accessible area where you can reach and use them to disarm the system just in case you triggered the siren accidentally.
